2025 Chevy Silverado: Next-Generation Trucks Get New Powertrain
2025 Chevy Silverado
The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado could be the last model year for the current generation of light-duty pickup trucks.
While the electrified Silverado is expected to hit the market, the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado will deliver the next generation of full-size pickup trucks with internal combustion engines (ICE). Notably, next-generation ICE trucks will get new powertrains.

What’s New For 2025?
In addition to the updated powertrain offering, the 2025 Chevrolet Silverado will showcase an entirely new design for the exterior and interior and use an all-new platform.
To clarify, it won’t be the same platform used by the Chevy Silverado Electric model, which uses the same Ultium Platform, meaning it uses GM’s Ultium battery technology and Ultium drive technology similar to the Hummer EV SUV and Hummer. EV pickup.
GM President Mark Reuss deliberately noted that the company is still selling conventional pickup trucks, even as it allocates most of its resources to electric vehicles, autonomous technology, and more robust software.
The current target to launch the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra is 2025, and Reuss also confirmed engine updates for GM’s upcoming truck family.
2025 Chevy Silverado Release Date
Production of Silverado 2025 is expected to begin at the end of the third quarter or perhaps the fourth quarter of 2024.
As of 2019, the Silverado 1500 model has been assembled at the Silao plant in Mexico and the Fort Wayne plant in Indiana, USA.
In addition, the Oshawa plant in Canada is building only Chevrolet Silverados. Production began with the Silverado HD in November.
In spring 2022, Oshawa will begin production of the Silverado 1500, coinciding with the launch of the new model announced earlier this year.
This would make Oshawa the only GM plant to exclusively produce Silverado models and the only plant to create light and heavy trucks.
2025 Chevy Silverado Price
The basic version of the Silverado EV, called the Work Truck (WT), is expected to have an MSRP of $52,448.
2024 Chevy Silverado HD WT
The fully updated 2024 Chevy Silverado HD debuted in September with various updates and changes for heavy-duty pickup trucks. Here’s the first look at the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD WT in a Regular Cab body configuration.
Although it has previously seen the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD in Crew Cab and Double Cab body configurations, including through spy photos of prototype models and official images from Chevrolet, this is the first look at the refreshed pickup in the Regular Cab two-door configuration.
This base model WT truck is straightforward, with simple black trim and a two-door Regular Cab body.
The lighting treatment looks familiar, with a thin top lighting element at the fascia corner above the horizontal lighting element posting the grille.
However, some updates remain, such as the new grille pattern and lower bumper treatment. A thin lower horizontal force line separates the grille from the bumper.
A simple set of steel wheels with a silver coating is mounted in the corners, while a relatively large rear fender houses a single rear wheel. Also standing out is the sleek side mirror.
The 2024 Chevy Silverado HD WT trim and Custom trim levels have the same interior layout as the pre-refreshed model.
In comparison, the LT trim level and above is complemented by an overhauled interior design first introduced with a 2024 model year refresh.
2024 Chevy Silverado HD Engine
Further updates, especially for the 2024 model year, include powertrain changes. The standard 6.6L V8T petrol engine is now connected to an Allison-branded 10-speed automatic transmission rather than the previous six-speed GM-equipped one.
In addition, the 6.6L L5P V8 turbodiesel Duramax engine now produces 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque, compared to the 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque produced before the refresh.
2024 Chevy Silverado HD Release Date
Production of the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD will begin in the first half of the 2023 calendar year. The show will take place at GM Flint Assembly’s plant in Michigan and GM Oshawa’s plant in Canada.
